Darnel Arsenal

Field Performance of Arsenal Ryegrass

Selecting the right grass variety is essential for optimizing pasture productivity and hay quality. The Arsenal variety, developed by Euro Grass Breeding KG, is a reliable choice for farmers who prioritize consistent yields and lower chemical dependency. Coming from German breeding programs, it is designed to handle common field stresses efficiently.

Resilience and Management

One of the standout features of Arsenal is its genetic resistance to wheat brown rust, which often plagues other forage varieties. During seasons with high humidity, when powdery mildew and other rust diseases are common, Arsenal maintains a healthier canopy, reducing the need for intensive fungicide applications. This makes it a cost-effective solution for large-scale forage management.

• Growth Cycle: With a growing period of 110–140 days, this variety fits well into standard multi-cut systems.
• Harvesting: The plant height of 70–100 cm provides an ideal biomass structure for standard harvesting machinery, ensuring clean cutting and uniform windrows.
• Maintenance: Classified as having medium maintenance requirements, it adapts well to standard agronomic practices without the need for specialized or excessive inputs.

Practical Insights for Growers

In practice, Arsenal performs consistently across varying soil conditions. It is not prone to lodging and recovers well after mowing, making it highly suitable for multi-cut management. Because the plants resist stem smut and rust infections, you spend less time monitoring for disease outbreaks and more time focusing on optimizing harvest timing to capture peak protein levels. For any producer looking to minimize risk while ensuring a stable feed supply, Arsenal serves as a robust and dependable choice.
