Ryegrass Aitera is a perennial grass of winter type, reaching a height of 40 to 80 cm. It forms a dense sward with numerous short above-ground stems and upright, well-leaved stems. The inflorescence is a spike up to 15 cm long and more, with fine hairs along the edges covered with bracts. The seed stalk of this perennial ryegrass is flat and slightly widens towards the top. After mowing, the grass quickly regenerates, ensuring prolonged use of the plant.
The root system of ryegrass is shallow, which makes the plant poorly tolerant of drought and frost, especially in snowless winters. It is also not resistant to flooding and shallow groundwater. Despite this, ryegrass Aitera can persist in one place for more than five years, forming a dense grass cover.
This culture is widely used for greening problem areas, lowlands, roadside verges, and residual soil strips, where hardy plants are needed to stabilize the soil. Perennial grasses effectively protect the soil, improve its structure, suppress weed growth, and are suitable for use under large plantings of berry bushes, grapevines, hazelnuts, fruit orchards, and in tree root zones.
