The multiflower ryegrass variety Vityaz is a highly efficient crop material created based on the best plants of wild populations, followed by multiple selections and open-pollination. It belongs to the diploid variety Lolium multiflorum Lam. ssp. italicum (A. Br.) Volkart and was included in the register of approved varieties in 2009, confirming its stability and suitability for a wide range of regional applications.
Vityaz is distinguished by high leafiness and rapid regrowth both in spring and after cuts. Bushes remain semi-upright in the autumn period and reach medium height in the spring season. Leaves are dark green, the flag leaf has medium length and width, ensuring good photosynthetic activity. Inflorescences are long with a large number of spikelets, forming in the second year of sowing with a medium tendency for their development.
Vityaz's yield is impressive: green mass reaches 454–472 centners per hectare, hay – 113–118 c/ha, and seeds – about 9 c/ha. The phase of the beginning of heading is characterized by protein content within 15–16%, making it a valuable feed material for all types of animals. Due to excellent palatability and high nutritional potential, Vityaz is widely used both as a pure substance and in mixtures with timothy and legume grasses in field feed production.
The variety is excellent for the creation and improvement of hay meadows, pastures, lawns, and sports grounds. Its resistance to cutting and ability to recover quickly make it an indispensable element in agricultural technical schemes aimed at increasing the productivity and quality of crops.
