Description

The winter rye variety Parcha was developed by breeders of the Federal Research Center Nemchinovka and the Upper Volga FANC. This medium-early variety has been included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia since 2016 and is recommended for cultivation in the Central, Volga-Vyatsky, and Middle Volga regions, in particular in the Moscow Region. Plants of the Parcha variety are of medium height, ranging from 102 to 142 cm, with an intermediate bush type and a semi-hanging, medium-density and length spike. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 31 to 39 grams; the grain is of medium size with a dark aleurone layer. The vegetative period of the variety ranges from 267 to 318 days, corresponding to medium-early maturity dates, close to those of the Valdai, Moscow 12, and Talovskaya 41 varieties. The variety exhibits high winter hardiness, exceeding the average level and comparable to the Moscow 12 variety. Parcha is resistant to lodging and drought at the level of the standard Moscow 12, making it a reliable choice for various climatic conditions. The average yield of the variety in trials reaches 6.65 tons per hectare, while the maximum yield in the Moscow Region was 79.6 centners per hectare. The Parcha variety is characterized by satisfactory bread-making qualities and protein content in the grain at the level of the standards Pamyat Kondratenko and Radon. It is moderately resistant to brown rust, powdery mildew, and stem rust, and is medium susceptible to snow mold, corresponding to the indicators of standard varieties. These characteristics make rye Parcha a promising and balanced variety for cultivation in the recommended regions with good yield and resistance to unfavorable factors.
