Description LO 182 N
LO 182 N is a diploid hybrid of winter rye (Secale cereale L.), characterized by medium maturity and satisfactory baking qualities. Plants of this variety reach a height of 88 to 146 cm, while the mass of 1000 grains varies within 32-40 g. The hybrid is recommended for cultivation in the North-Western, Central, Volga-Vyatsky, and Central-Black Earth regions, with special emphasis on the Kaliningrad region, where the average yield is 42.5 c/ha, and the maximum reaches 85.9 c/ha. The variety is intended for farms with a yield level above 40 c/ha. One of the important characteristics of LO 182 N is its lodging resistance, which is at the level of the standard Moscow 12, as well as increased drought resistance compared to the variety Volkhova. These properties make the hybrid a reliable choice for cultivation in conditions where adverse weather factors are possible, ensuring a stable yield and grain quality. An important aspect in rye cultivation is protection against ergot—a disease caused by the fungus Claviceps purpurea, which negatively affects grain quality and safety. Developing resistant varieties, such as LO 182 N, is an effective way to combat this disease. In breeding, not only resistance to fungal infection is considered, but also the reduction of toxic ergoalkaloids accumulation in sclerotia, which enhances product safety and quality.
