Kievskaya 86 — this is a winter rye variety, developed based on the variety Bylina with participation of the varieties Saratovskaya 5, Alfa, Hja 7043, and Valday. This medium-late variety is intended for cultivation in the Northern and Northwest regions, where it demonstrates high winter hardiness and drought resistance. Medium-height plants exhibit increased resistance to lodging, which contributes to maintaining yield and improving grain quality. The average 1000-grain weight is 33–35 grams, indicating good seed material development.

Kievskaya 86 exhibits moderate resistance to diseases such as snow mold, brown rust, and glume smut, reducing the risk of yield losses and the need for intensive protective treatments. The yield of this variety in the Northern region reaches 36.0 c/ha, and in the Northwest region — 33.0 c/ha, making it attractive for agricultural enterprises focused on stable rye production.

Winter rye, to which the variety Kievskaya 86 belongs, is a cereal plant closely related to barley and wheat, widely used both for grain production and as a forage crop. Rye seeds have an oval or elongated shape, and the ear consists of two florets and two glumes. Rye can germinate at very low temperatures, starting from 0°С, ensuring early emergence within 5–6 days after sowing. The optimal temperature for germination of seedling roots is around 3.8°С, and the seeding rate per 100 square meters is 1.6–2 kg, enabling effective planning of sowing activities.
