GRAN

The winter rye variety 'GRAN' is a medium-maturing diploid form created through repeated individual-family selection from a hybrid population derived from crossing the Danikovskoe zlotye, Chulpan, and Purga varieties. The plants are medium-height, ranging from 107 to 139 cm, with a semi-erect bush and a semi-drooping spike of medium density and length. The grain is light-colored, medium-sized, with a 1000-grain weight varying from 27 to 39 grams. The vegetative period ranges from 295 to 329 days, corresponding to a medium-maturing ripening period close to the Valday standard.

The variety is characterized by high winter hardiness, exceeding the average level, as well as resistance to lodging and drought at the level of known varieties Valday and Pamyat Kondratenko. The yield of the 'GRAN' variety is quite high: average yield reaches 40.6 c/ha, while in the Smolensk region it exceeds the Valday standard by 4.7 c/ha, and maximum yield figures reached up to 71.0 c/ha in the Bryansk region. These characteristics make the variety suitable for cultivation under various climatic conditions of the Central, Volga-Vyatka, and Northwestern regions.

In terms of disease resistance, the 'GRAN' variety is susceptible to snow mold and brown rust, as well as affected by septoria and ergot at the level of or below standard varieties. Bread-making qualities of the grain are assessed as satisfactory. Due to its agronomic characteristics and adaptability, the 'GRAN' variety is a reliable choice for agricultural production in the recommended regions.
