Sugana

Zügana (Sugana) raspberry is a remontant variety of Swiss selection, characterized by medium-late ripening and the ability to produce two harvests per season — from early July until October, depending on climatic conditions. The bushes are strong, upright, with vertically oriented medium-thorned branches, reaching a height of about 1.8–2 meters. Due to their structure, the plants can be grown without trellising. It is recommended to plant bushes with a spacing of no less than 0.5 meters between them and 1.5 meters between rows, which ensures optimal conditions for growth and fruiting.

The berries of Zügana raspberry are large, conical, bright red with a glossy surface. The average weight of the fruits is 6–7 grams, and under good care, individual berries may reach 10–12 grams. The fruits detach easily and dry from the peduncle, have small seeds that are practically not noticeable when consumed. The flesh is juicy, very aromatic, with a pronounced sweet taste and minimal acidity, making this variety especially attractive for children. High flavor qualities are retained in both the first and second harvests.

The variety is characterized by high resistance to drought, heat, and frost down to -30°C, as well as resistance to major raspberry diseases. The berries have excellent transportability and storability: they do not lose their appearance or flavor when stored in a refrigerator for up to 7 days and can be kept for up to 4 days under normal conditions. Due to these characteristics, as well as stable and high yield with a high percentage of first-class berries (up to 98%), Zügana raspberry is widely used both for industrial cultivation and for fresh consumption, jam making, compote preparation, and freezing.
