Octavia raspberry is a summer variety with late ripening, developed in 1992 in the United Kingdom by crossing Glen Elan and EM 5928/114 varieties. The plants of this variety are vigorous, compact, reaching up to 2.2 meters in height. Berries are large, weighing 5-6 grams, uniform in size, firm and juicy, with a distinct raspberry aroma and excellent taste qualities. Fruit-bearing begins in mid-July and continues until early September, allowing to extend the harvest period when planted in combination with other varieties.
The Octavia variety is characterized by high yield — up to 3-3.5 kg of large, sweet berries can be harvested from one bush. It has good storability and high transportability, making it popular both for personal consumption and for commercial cultivation and marketing of fresh produce. The raspberry is versatile in use: berries are excellent for fresh consumption, as well as for processing and freezing.
The plant prefers sunny, open areas with fertile and well-drained soils. The variety has high cold resistance and moderate resistance to gray mold and cane diseases, but may be susceptible to root rot. Due to its characteristics and adaptability, Octavia raspberry is successfully grown in all climatic zones of Ukraine and is suitable for both amateur gardeners and industrial production.
