Description

The Torpedo strawberry is a mid-season domestic variety bred in the Urals by crossing the 'Festivalnaya' and 'Robinson' varieties. The bushes are medium-sized, semi-spreading, with moderate runner formation and dark green glossy leaves. The flowers are perfect, located on powerful peduncles and contain pollen-rich stamens, ensuring high stable yield without the need for additional pollinators. The variety is characterized by high winter hardiness and frost resistance, allowing it to be grown in regions with harsh climatic conditions, as well as drought resistance.

The Torpedo variety's berries are elongated ellipsoid in shape with a flattened top, bright red in color with a glossy sheen and yellowish seeds. Fruit mass ranges from 10 to 35 grams, with the first berries usually being larger and torpedo-shaped. The flesh is dense, juicy, dark red, without cavities, with a tart-sweet and very aromatic taste. The fruits have good transportability and are suitable for fresh consumption, as well as for processing and various preserves, including garnishing dessert dishes. The berries contain a significant amount of Vitamin C.

The Torpedo variety is resistant to sub-freezing and gray mold, but can be affected by the strawberry weevil. Berries ripen over 2-3 weeks after the onset of fruiting. Yield is about 1 kg per bush or 64 centners per hectare. Due to its taste qualities, ease of care, and resistance to unfavorable conditions, Torpedo strawberries are very popular among gardeners.
