Description Alpha
The Alpha strawberry variety is a remontant, late-maturing domestic variety bred in 2000 by crossing the 'Surprise Olympiade' and 'Festival Romashka' varieties. The bushes of this variety are vigorous, moderately spreading, and densely foliated, with dull green leaves and a scalloped leaf margin. Inflorescences are located below the leaves, and rosetting is moderate, which promotes good rooting of rosettes. Alpha is characterized by high winter hardiness and drought resistance, allowing it to be grown in almost all climatic zones, including northern and mountainous regions. The berries are large, oval-conical in shape, weighing from 25 to 40 grams, bright red in color with a glossy skin and yellow speckled seeds. The flesh is dense, juicy, and fleshy with a distinct strawberry aroma, and a taste that is sour-sweet with a good tasting score. The fruits withstand transportation and long-term storage well, without losing their appearance and taste qualities, making the variety universal for personal consumption, commercial cultivation, as well as for processing and canning. The variety has high yield — up to 1.2 kg of berries can be collected from one bush, and about 11-12 tons per hectare. Alpha is resistant to gray mold, but can be affected by brown and white spot when planted too densely. The plant is susceptible to pests such as the bronze beetle, weevil, strawberry and spider mites, so spring treatment with biopreparations is recommended. Despite the possibility of growing under various conditions, proper care is recommended to ensure maximum yield and berry quality.
