Description Toros
Blueberry variety Toro (Vaccinium corymbosum 'Toro') is a high-growing shrub with an upright form and a dense vertical crown, reaching a height of 1.7 to 2 meters and a width of up to 1.7 meters. The leaves are large, flat, and heart-shaped, changing color depending on the season: dark green in summer, bronze in spring, and bright red in autumn. The stems acquire a reddish hue in November and retain it until the start of the new season. The bushes are characterized by high winter hardiness and resistance to viral diseases, making the variety suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions, including areas with a risk of waterlogging. Toro blueberries are large, with diameters ranging from 18 to 24 mm and a weight of 2-4 grams, have a flattened shape, and are covered with a light blue waxy bloom. Their rich purplish-blue color and exquisite sweet taste with low acidity resemble jelly and wild blueberries. The fruits form large clusters resembling grapevines, which ensures ease of harvest collection, although dense clusters may hinder primary mechanical harvesting. The berry pulp is dense and juicy, making them ideal for fresh consumption, as well as for making desserts and jams. The Toro variety belongs to mid-season in terms of ripening, with fruits beginning to ripen in early August. Yield is high and stable, reaching up to 9-10 kg per bush. Blueberries are rich in vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants, while the vitamin C content in the berries exceeds levels typical of citrus fruits. For optimal shrub growth, acidic soil with a pH of 3.5-4 and sunny, wind-protected areas are recommended. Due to its characteristics, the Toro variety is suitable for both private and commercial cultivation.
