The winter wheat variety Sailor is medium-maturing and belongs to high-yielding varieties, developed based on the best selection samples from the Hdmersleben station in Germany, as well as well-known domestic varieties Kavkaz and Bezosta 1. It was registered in Europe in 2010, and in Ukraine, Belarus, and other CIS countries — in 2013. The growing period of the variety is about 285 days, which allows it to develop well from autumn when sown at medium-late dates.
Sailor is distinguished by enhanced winter hardiness and resistance to major fungal diseases, including root rots, septoria, fusarium, brown rust, and powdery mildew. The level of resistance to lodging and shattering is rated 8 points, and to diseases — 7 points, ensuring stable yields and high grain quality. The grain quality meets the first class, confirming its high nutritional and technological value.
The yield of the variety under production conditions reaches 8-9 tons per hectare, and its potential yield may reach up to 10 tons per hectare. The recommended seeding rate is 3.5-4.5 million germinating seeds per hectare, with the possibility of adjustment downward. For optimal growth and maximum productivity, fertilization at the rate N40P40K40 is recommended. Thanks to its high nutrient uptake capacity and rapid start of development, Sailor is suitable for cultivation in all agroclimatic zones of Ukraine.
