Description VESTNIK
The potato variety VESTNIK is a mid-season table variety of Russian selection, characterized by round tubers with yellow (cream-colored) skin having an intense netted structure and small eyes. The flesh is white and contains 11.2 to 18% starch, making this variety versatile for various cooking methods including frying, baking, and mashing. Tubers weigh between 48 to 140 grams, and the number of tubers per plant varies from 6 to 14. The maturation period is 80-95 days, allowing for an early harvest. The VESTNIK variety is distinguished by high yield, ranging from 158 to 307 centners per hectare, and up to 393 centners under favorable conditions. It is resistant to mechanical damage during harvest and storage, ensuring high storability of tubers — about 94%. Additionally, the variety has good consumer qualities: the flesh does not darken when cut, preserving the appealing appearance of dishes. VESTNIK is suitable for both table use and processing, thanks to its starch content and tuber structure. In terms of disease resistance, VESTNIK exhibits resistance to potato scab and viral diseases, as well as to late blight and rhizoctonia. However, the variety is susceptible to severe infection by late blight on foliage and tubers, requiring careful care and preventive measures during the growing season. For planting, a scheme of 70 x 30 cm with a planting depth of 8-10 cm is recommended, with the optimal planting time being May.
