Potato Orla

Genetic Resilience and Agronomic Engineering

Developed by the Irish research powerhouse Teagasc, the 'Orla' potato variety represents a specialized solution for early-season production, prioritizing harvest stability. The core engineering objective of this cultivar is to achieve full market maturity within 55–65 days, making it an essential asset for early-market supply chains.

Tuber Technical Specifications

• Morphology: The round-oval geometry combined with shallow eyes minimizes waste during mechanical processing and peeling.
• Skin and Texture: The smooth cream-colored skin provides a high-quality aesthetic, while the light-yellow flesh maintains structural integrity during culinary preparation.
• Breeding Pedigree: Engineered at the Teagasc Oak Park Research Centre, the variety features robust genetic resistance traits.

Practical Field Advantages

The resilience of 'Orla' against primary pathogens is a significant driver of agricultural profitability. High resistance to Potato Cyst Nematode (Ro1) and Potato Leafroll Virus significantly lowers the reliance on heavy chemical interventions. Its field tolerance to late blight and common scab ensures a predictable crop cycle, even under fluctuating climatic conditions. For growers, this translates to a streamlined crop protection schedule, lower input costs, and reliable consistency in tuber size and quality, securing a competitive edge in early harvest windows.
