Description Alverstone Russet
Alverstone Russet is a late-maturing table potato variety of Dutch origin, intended for traditional markets, washing, packaging, and processing, including French fry production. The vegetation period ranges from 100 to 140 days, depending on the region and growing conditions. Plants are tall with upright or semi-upright stems and large light-green leaves. Tubers are oval or slightly elongated, with yellow or brown skin and white flesh, weighing from 102 to 122 grams. The number of tubers per plant varies from 8 to 11.

The variety has high and stable yields, reaching 164 to 278 centners per hectare, with maximum yields up to 342 centners per hectare. Tubers have a marketability of 78-95% and a storage capacity of 92%, ensuring good storage and product preservation. Starch content ranges from 16.1% to 18.8%, making it suitable for various cooking methods: frying, boiling, baking, and especially French fry production. Flavor quality is rated as good, and its culinary type BC confirms its versatility.

Alverstone Russet shows resistance to potato cyst nematode and moderate resistance to late blight of foliage and tubers. However, it is susceptible to golden potato cyst nematode, as well as to common scab and alternaria. High resistance to tuber late blight and approval by major companies such as McDonald's confirm its reliability and quality for industrial cultivation and processing.
