The potato variety Alena is an early-maturing table variety developed by specialists of the Omsk Agricultural Science Center. The plant is of medium height, intermediate type with spreading stems and large dark-green leaves. Flowers have a red-purple coloration, abundant flowering, but hardly form fruits. Tubers are oval-shaped with smooth red skin and white flesh, weighing 86 to 167 grams, with shallow eyes and red-purple sprouts. The variety’s yield is stable, ranging from 172 to 292 centners per hectare, with maximum yields reaching 391 centners. The variety demonstrates good adaptability to various soils and climatic conditions, showing high drought resistance and resistance to mechanical damage, making it suitable for machine harvesting. Alena potato requires minimal care and only basic agronomic measures. It is recommended to pre-sprout tubers before planting to improve germination and reduce vegetative period. Flavor qualities are high: tubers have moderate softening, flesh retains light color during thermal processing and has pleasant texture, making the variety ideal for frying, baking, stuffing, salads, vegetable mixes, soups, and processing into chips. The variety is resistant to potato blight, common scab, and rhizoctonia, but susceptible to late blight and golden potato cyst nematode. Starch content in tubers is 15–17%, reducing sugars 0.1–0.2%, and vitamin C 17–20 mg%. Commercial quality reaches 81–97%, and storability is 95%, ensuring long-term storage without quality loss. Due to its characteristics and universal application, potato Alena is an excellent choice for cultivation in various regions with different climatic conditions.
