Cristina

Cristina is a Dutch early-maturing potato variety that matures in 50–55 days after planting. The plants of this variety are low-growing, reaching about 50 cm in height, with strong upright stems that prevent lodging. The tubers are large, oval-shaped with a smooth, deep-red skin, giving them an attractive appearance both in the field and on store shelves. The flesh is creamy or white, possessing excellent flavor and a high starch content, making the tubers ideal for boiling and making salads.

The Cristina variety is characterized by high yield — up to 10–15 large tubers per plant. It is resistant to common potato diseases such as common scab, late blight, and rhizoctonia, making it a popular choice for both home use and farm production. Due to its smooth skin, the potatoes are easy to clean, and their high storability ensures long-term storage without quality loss.

Planting of Cristina potatoes is recommended in early April, depending on weather conditions. Soil treatment should take into account the variety's sensitivity to the herbicide metribuzin, which can only be applied before emergence to avoid damaging the plants. The variety was officially registered in the national register in 2014, but it had already been cultivated and popularized earlier due to its agronomic and commercial qualities.
