Description Palermo
Sweet pepper Palermo F1 is an early hybrid developed by the Dutch seed company Rijk Zwaan. This variety features a medium-height, compact, and moderately leafy plant that adapts well to temperature changes and insufficient lighting. Palermo F1 is resistant to blossom end rot and tobacco mosaic virus, ensuring a stable and high-quality yield. The plant requires minimal pruning, as fruits form on each stem, and pinching and removal of suckers are almost unnecessary. Palermo fruits have an elongated-conical Italian-type shape, reaching lengths of 15 to 30 cm and weights of 100 to 150 grams. Fruit color changes from deep green to bright red, and the flesh is juicy, crisp, and of medium density. A distinctive feature of this variety is its high sweetness — the Brix scale reaches 9 out of 10, making Palermo one of the sweetest sweet pepper varieties in the world. The thin fruit skin does not diminish flavor but rather adds a pleasant accent. The pepper has a strong fruity aroma and high sugar concentration. Palermo F1 is suitable for cultivation in both polyethylene and glasshouses, as well as in open ground, demonstrating high yields due to its pronounced remontancy — the plant continues to flower and form fruiting buds after the first harvest. Fruits withstand long-distance transportation and prolonged storage. This variety is versatile in use: it is used for fresh consumption, home cooking, canning, freezing, grilling, drying, and stuffing. High dry matter content makes Palermo an excellent choice for various processing methods.
