Description Birsk Apple
Late autumn apple variety discovered in the gardens of Birsk (Republic of Bashkortostan) after the severe winter of 1948 by R. N. Bolotina (Bashkir Research Institute of Agriculture).
Widely grown in the forest-steppe gardening zone of Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, Mari El, Chuvashia, Udmurtia, Kuybyshev and Ulyanovsk regions. Widely used in breeding as a donor for resistance to scab, large fruit size, and high flavor quality.

Tree is vigorous and moderately dense. The crown in fruiting age is broadly round, with slightly hanging branches, moderate foliage. Skeletal branches are dark brown. Bears fruit on spurs and short shoots.

Shoots are dark brown, medium, round in cross-section, straight, thick, with weak pubescence. Buds are of medium number, small, convex. Buds are pressed, reddish-brown, conical. Leaves are large, directed sideways, elongated, serrated, dark green, glossy, margins slightly curled downward. Leaf blade is leathery, thick, slightly curved upward. Petiole is long, medium thickness, colored on the underside. Bracts are small, lanceolate.
Flowers are pink, large, corolla bowl-shaped, petals white-pink, medium closeness, stigma positioned above stamens. Inflorescence is umbel-like, flower number medium.

Fruits are above-average size (130-180 g), regular shape, one-sided, round. Skin is smooth with slight rusting at the stem attachment. Subdermal spots are barely noticeable. Main coloration is whitish-light green with faint blush. Calyx is large, medium width; receptacle is large, wide, smooth, calyx closed, subcalyx tube funnel-shaped.
Flesh is white, fine-grained, firm, juicy, slightly tart-sweet with weak aroma, dessert flavor. Fruits are rated 5 points for appearance and 4.5 points for taste. Chemical composition of fruits: dry matter — 15.12%, sugars — 9.26%, ascorbic acid — 6.9 mg/100g, pectin — 0.96%.

Fruits are high quality, can be stored until January.
Self-incompatible. Best pollinators — Bashkir Beauty, Buzovyezovskoe.
High yield — 130-270 centners per hectare, fruiting is regular, fruit drop is weak. High resistance to extreme conditions. Highly resistant to scab; weakly affected by aphids and leaf-eating pests.
