Osnov'yanska

The Osnov'yanska variety of pear is a late-autumn variety developed at the Krasnohutskaya Experimental Orchard Station. The tree has medium growth vigor with a wide pyramidal crown that becomes flat-round and medium-dense with age. Fruit production begins on the 3rd-5th year after planting, with high and stable yields, and the variety is distinguished by good winter hardiness and resistance to scab. Osnov'yanska is suitable for cultivation in all regions of Ukraine due to its frost resistance and disease immunity.

The fruits have a regular pear shape, ranging from medium to large size, with smooth, matte greenish-yellow skin and a pinkish blush. The skin is covered with small gray lenticels, and the peduncle is long and curved. The flesh is creamy, juicy, semi-oily, fine-grained, becoming soft and sweet with a slight spicy aroma upon full ripening. The average fruit weight is 200-240 grams.

The harvest ripens at the end of September to the beginning of October, and consumer ripeness is reached 1-2 weeks after harvest. The fruits store well until the end of November and have good transportability. They contain up to 16% sugars, about 3.5% pectin, proteins, fiber, malic and citric acids, as well as vitamins, enzymes, and mineral salts. The main use of the fruits is fresh consumption, but they are also used for making jams, preserves, jelly, marmalade, dried, and boiled compotes.
