Description

The 'Diva' pear variety is a winter variety developed by the Crimea Horticultural Experimental Station. This variety was obtained by sowing seeds from free pollination of the 'Olivier de Serre' variety and is characterized by a small tree with a round, compact, and densely foliated crown. 'Diva' pear fruits are large, weighing from 230 to 250 grams, with individual specimens reaching up to 350 grams. They have a conical or truncated-egg shape and are characterized by uniformity. The fruit flesh is juicy, oily, melting with a harmonious sweet-sour taste, making them particularly attractive to consumers.

Harvesting maturity occurs in the first decade of October, at which time the fruits remain firmly attached to the tree and withstand transportation well, ensuring high marketability at a level of 94–97%. 'Diva' pears are well preserved at a temperature of approximately +2 °C until April, allowing for their use for an extended period after harvest. The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness and drought resistance, as well as resistance to scab and leaf thermal scorch, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in various climatic conditions.

High winter hardiness and disease resistance of the variety allow for its cultivation in regions with severe winters and variable climates. 'Diva' variety seedlings are typically one-year-old, about 120 cm tall, and are grafted onto wild pear rootstocks. Due to its qualities and resistance, the 'Diva' variety is suitable for gardeners seeking to obtain a stable and high-quality harvest of large and tasty pears with a long storage period.
