Katyusha

The 'Katusha' pear is a late-winter variety developed by Russian breeders, including those at the Saratov Experimental Station. The tree is of medium height with a pyramidal crown and medium-thick branches, beginning to bear fruit three to four years after transplanting. The variety is distinguished by high frost resistance and disease resistance, including resistance to scab, making it low-maintenance and reliable for cultivation in various climatic conditions.

The fruits of the 'Katusha' pear have a classic pear shape, weighing between 100 to 130 grams. The skin is a vibrant green with a red blush, which gradually turns yellow upon full ripening. The flesh is creamy, juicy, and has a balanced sweet-tart flavor. When harvested in early October, the flesh may be tart and firm, but by consumer maturity, which occurs by the end of February, it becomes soft and aromatic.

The variety features an extended ripening period and good storability — fruits can retain their quality until May when stored without artificial cooling. 'Katusha' pears have high transportability, allowing them to be shipped over long distances without loss of quality. The variety is self-fertile, suitable for dense plantings, and yields a stable, high harvest on black soil.
