Description Ekrannoy
Autumn variety from the Sverdlovsk Experimental Garden Station. Obtained by pollinating Amber with a pollen mixture of the varieties Zvezdochka, Samotsvet, and Orange. Fertilization likely occurred via Zvezdochka pollen. Author: L. A. Kotov. Distributed in new plantings in the Middle and Southern Urals and in the Priuralsk region. Promising for wider distribution.

Medium-sized tree with a naturally forming, moderately dense, rounded crown. Main branches have smooth, greenish bark, straight, compactly arranged, emerging from the trunk at nearly right angles and directed upward at an incline. Fruit set occurs on simple and complex rings and spurs, starting from two-year-old wood.

Shoots with brownish-bark, thin, curved, round-sectioned, hairy. Leaves dark green, matte, medium-sized, round or oval-shaped, with rounded bases and short-pointed tips, serrated edges, finely wrinkled surface, on long petioles, with elongated semilunar stipules.
Flowers medium-sized, cup-shaped, white with a slight pink tinge, stigmas taller than or nearly equal to the anthers. Unopened buds creamy.

Fruits medium-sized, 70-90 g, one-dimensional, slightly flattened round shape, broadly shallowly ribbed. Surface smooth. Skin smooth, dry, glossy, covered with a waxy coating. Color when harvested greenish-yellow, later becomes light-yellow, with a strongly expressed, diffuse reddish-pink blush over the entire fruit. Depression small, shallow, often with a bump on one side, slight russeting, short peduncle. Receptacle small, broad, calyx half-open. Subcalyx tube short, wide-conical. Heart large, clove-shaped, seed chambers open (fig.), seeds small, egg-shaped, dark-brown.
Flesh creamy, dense, juicy, fine-grained, tender, very succulent, excellent sweet-tart flavor, moderate aroma. Chemical composition: dry soluble solids — 13.2% (up to 15.6%), sugar sum — 10.6% (up to 12.5%), titratable acids — 0.66% (up to 0.98%), ascorbic acid — 6.16 mg/100g, P-active substances (catechins) — 167.8 mg/100g (up to 320.3 mg/100g).

Fruits ripen in autumn. Fruit transportability is good. Have market appearance, consumed fresh from September to January (150 days), suitable for processing.
Self-sterile, well-pollinated by other widely distributed varieties in the region.
Trees begin fruiting on the 5th year after budding, flowering and fruiting are regular — 150-200 centners per hectare and more. Good winter hardiness. The variety is low-maintenance and relatively disease-resistant. Only during epiphytotic years, it is moderately affected by scab.

Advantages of the variety: high yield, tasty and attractive fruits suitable for fresh consumption and processing.

Disadvantages of the variety: insufficient ascorbic acid content.
