MRYA

The Mrya pear variety is a winter variety with high frost resistance and disease resistance, making it an excellent choice for growing in various climatic conditions, including Ukraine and southern regions of Russia. The tree is semi-dwarf, reaching a height of about 3 meters, with a moderately dense pyramidal crown and large glossy leaves. Blooming is late, which ensures frost resistance of the flowers, while fruiting is annual and abundant. The variety is grafted on a semi-dwarf quince rootstock, which contributes to stable yield and good tree development. Mrya pear fruits are large, usually weighing from 210 to 240 grams, but can reach up to 450 grams. They have a correct pear shape and a smooth surface. Fruit color changes from yellowish-green to golden-yellow with a bright carmine or pink blush as they ripen. The flesh is creamy, tender, juicy, and buttery, with a sweet-and-sour taste that is highly rated and fully developed only after some storage. Picked off the tree, fruits initially have a less pronounced taste, which becomes dessert-like and aromatic during November. Mrya pear harvest is produced in the first decade of October when the fruits are still unripe, allowing them to store well. In a refrigerator at about +2°C, pears can maintain their qualities until May, while under normal storage—until January or March. High winter hardiness and resistance to fungal diseases make this variety reliable and convenient for long-term storage and transportation. Due to its taste qualities and stable yield, Mrya pear is a popular choice among gardeners and lovers of quality winter pears.
