The Gambit pea variety is a prime example of a high-yielding yellow-seeded pea of Czech breeding, intended for grain and fodder use. This mid-season variety is characterized by a vegetative period of approximately 106-112 days and plant height within the range of 70-105 cm, making it of medium stature and convenient for mechanized harvesting. The grain is yellow, with a mass of 1000 seeds of about 274 g, distinguished by large seed size and high protein content — up to 23.2%, which ensures high nutritional value of the crop.
Gambit belongs to intensive varieties of an erect (leafless) type, which facilitates direct combine harvesting and reduces losses during harvesting due to resistance to shattering. The variety demonstrates high resistance to lodging, which contributes to crop preservation under unfavorable weather conditions. Moreover, the Gambit pea is noted for good resistance to a complex of root and stem diseases, as well as high resistance to downy mildew and stress factors, making it a reliable choice for various agro-climatic zones.
The variety is undemanding regarding predecessors and can be successfully grown after grain crops and corn. The recommended sowing rate is from 1.0 to 1.5 million viable seeds per hectare, and the optimal planting time is early. Thanks to its characteristics, Gambit provides stable yields at the level of 55-60 c/ha, making it attractive for farmers oriented towards obtaining quality grain and fodder products.
