The Batun onion variety ZDOROVYAK is an early-maturing and high-yielding variety intended for early green production. The plant is tall with erect dark green leaves covered in a strong waxy coating, which gives them juiciness and tenderness. The false stem is short and lacks anthocyanin pigmentation. The taste is semi-spicy, changing from more piquant at the base to tender at the tips of the feathers. The mass of one plant is 25–30 grams.
This variety is characterized by winter hardiness and can be grown both as an annual crop and with the possibility of successfully overwintering in mild winter conditions. The ZDOROVYAK onion is suitable for growing in open ground during the summer, as well as in greenhouses and hotbeds in winter. Thanks to its undemanding nature, it can even be grown at home, for example, in window sill boxes, which ensures a continuous supply of greens throughout the year.
Sowing seeds is recommended directly into open ground at the end of April to early May at a depth of 1.0–1.5 cm with row spacing of 4-5 x 10-15 cm. Harvesting begins at the end of June to early July when leaves reach a height of 20-30 cm. For a continuous supply of fresh greens, sowings are repeated with an interval of two weeks, with the last sowing possible by August 15. The ZDOROVYAK onion is widely used fresh for preparing salads, vinaigrettes, soups, and garnishing various appetizers.
