Onion ENERGY

Genetic Potential of 'Energy' Bunching Onion

The breeding partnership between NPK Sembiotek and Greenomica has introduced the 'Energy' variety, focused on intensive green crop production. The core focus is on high-quality commercial scallion (bunching onion) yields: the leaf boasts high density, intense dark green coloring, and a pronounced waxy coating that acts as a natural barrier against moisture loss and environmental stressors.

Phytopathological Protection

A key feature of 'Energy' is its comprehensive resistance to pathogens that typically limit yield in both greenhouse and open-field conditions:

• Fusarium Wilt Resistance: The genetic architecture of this variety suppresses Fusarium oxysporum development, which is critical during intensive irrigation and high soil temperatures.
• Peronospora Resistance: Due to the structural features of the epidermis, the variety effectively withstands downy mildew, allowing for a significant reduction in fungicide applications.

Agronomic Operation Aspects

The variety is tailored for the fresh market, where visual quality is the primary driver. The leaves are uniform, which significantly facilitates manual harvesting, thereby reducing labor costs for sorting and pre-sale preparation. Storage capacity is a standout characteristic: after harvest, 'Energy' retains its commercial appearance for 1–2 months, provided optimal temperature conditions are maintained. This flexibility offers better supply chain management for professional vegetable growers. Developmental stability during early growth stages ensures predictable performance in commercial scale operations.
