Onion ISHIKURA LONG WHITE

Consistent Yields of Tender Green Onions

The 'Ishikura Long White' bunching onion from Sedek is a professional choice for growers focused on high-quality green onion production with a rapid turnaround. This variety is highly valued for its lack of a distinct bulb: the plant directs all energy into producing a long, succulent, crisp white stem. This feature significantly minimizes waste during harvesting and processing.

Cultivation and Disease Resistance

With a vegetation period of up to 90 days, 'Ishikura Long White' allows for efficient succession planting throughout the season. Growers benefit from the variety's inherent resistance to downy mildew, a crucial factor in humid environments. The reduced pressure from powdery mildew means fewer fungicide applications are required, lowering production costs and appealing to market demands for cleaner produce.

Field Application Scenarios

• Fresh Market Production: The uniform, straight stem structure makes it perfect for bunching and retail presentation. The tender leaves remain succulent for a long time, extending shelf life.
• Succession Planting: Due to its predictable maturity, sowing in 2-3 week intervals ensures a steady, reliable flow of product to the market.
• Culinary and Processing Uses: Its mild, non-bitter flavor profile makes this variety a top choice for salad mix producers and culinary applications.

The breeding work by the Sedek team (A.N. Lukyanenko, S.V. Dubinin, I.N. Dubinina) has resulted in a variety that adapts well to various soil types, provided that adequate irrigation is maintained to support the vigorous growth of the aerial parts.
