Onion Zagrava

Strategic Benefits of the "Zahrava" Onion

The "Zahrava" variety, developed by the Mayak Experimental Station (NAAS of Ukraine), is designed for commercial growers who prioritize long-term storage and market price optimization. With a potential yield exceeding 100 tons per hectare and a storage life of up to 10 months, it provides a crucial edge in the agricultural market, allowing farmers to wait for peak pricing cycles.

Field Operations and Management

• Growth Cycle: The 100–120 day maturity window allows for efficient planning of irrigation and nutrient management, fitting well into the mid-season schedule.
• Harvesting Strategy: Optimized for manual harvesting. Careful handling during the harvest process is essential to ensure the shelf stability of the bulbs, keeping damage to a minimum.
• Market Versatility: The white, flat-round bulbs weigh between 80g and 170g, making them highly suitable for both retail packing and industrial processing, such as dehydration or freezing.

"Zahrava" stands out due to the density of its bulb tissue, which is the primary reason for its exceptional storage capabilities. Whether destined for export or domestic supply, this variety maintains its structural integrity and culinary value even after extended periods in climate-controlled storage. It is a reliable, high-yield asset for businesses looking to scale their production while reducing post-harvest losses.
