Onion Zevs

Technological advantages of Zeus hybrid by Sakata

The onion hybrid 'Zeus' is a product of Sakata (Japan), specifically engineered for professional cultivation in intensive farming systems. Japanese breeding philosophy prioritizes genetic resilience, which in this hybrid manifests as high tolerance to environmental stress, including temperature fluctuations and water scarcity.

Morphological and Quality Characteristics

• Root System: Exhibits high nutrient uptake efficiency, essential for maximizing yield in various soil conditions.
• Bulb Architecture: Forms dense, well-adhered outer scales that provide superior protection against mechanical damage during harvesting and logistics.
• Internal Structure: Features firm white flesh with an optimal dry matter content, ensuring excellent storage longevity and commercial quality.

In field conditions, 'Zeus' demonstrates a strong response to fertigation. Its physiological cycle is finely tuned to ensure uniform maturation, reducing losses during mechanical harvesting. The high density of the outer layers serves as a natural defense mechanism against pathogens, contributing to better resistance against storage rots.
