Red onion Verdon F1 is the latest ultra-early hybrid developed by Takii Seeds in Japan. It is characterized by early maturity, taking 85-90 days, allowing harvest 7-10 days earlier than other hybrids such as Bonus F1. The bulbs have a spherical shape with a diameter of 60-80 mm and a light golden-brown color. The fine neck of the bulbs closes well, enabling early harvest and preserving the yield.
Verdon F1 plants feature upright, dark green leaves of medium growth vigor. To form a strong root system and obtain perfectly round bulbs, sowing should be done as early as possible, preferably before the beginning of April. The hybrid is ideal for seedling cultivation, which allows optimizing harvest timing and quality. The recommended sowing density is 850,000 to 900,000 seeds per hectare, with a maximum limit of 1 million seeds per hectare. Reducing sowing density results in larger bulbs and slightly earlier maturity.
Verdon F1 is intended for fresh market sale due to the high quality of the bulbs and simultaneous maturity of the crop. Its vigorous plants and resistance to adverse conditions make this hybrid an attractive choice for farmers aiming to obtain early and stable red onion yields with excellent market characteristics.
