Onion SEMILETKA

Reliable Green Yield: «Semiletka» Bunching Onion

The «Semiletka» bunching onion (Allium fistulosum) from the Aelita agricultural firm is a staple for those prioritizing longevity and early spring harvest. Unlike standard bulb onions, this variety is designed for multiple years of harvesting from the same spot, living up to its name which implies a 5–7 year production cycle.

Core Advantages

• Early Maturity: With a harvest window of just 40–50 days from emergence, it is among the first greens available in the spring.
• Quality and Texture: It is bred specifically for salads, meaning the leaves remain tender and succulent for longer, provided the soil moisture is maintained.
• Hardiness: Developed by a team of experts at Aelita (Nastenko N.V., Kachaynik V.G., Kandoba A.V.), this variety is highly resistant to freezing temperatures, making it reliable for northern climates.

Who is this variety for?

«Semiletka» is an excellent choice for small-scale growers and home gardeners. Since it is intended for hand-harvesting, it is not suitable for large-scale mechanized industrial farming, but it shines in market gardening or private plots where quality and fresh appearance are paramount. The main trade-off is the need for consistent irrigation: if left without water, the leaves tend to toughen quickly, losing their premium culinary properties.

For those looking for a low-maintenance, perennial source of fresh greens, this variety offers a predictable and steady yield. It is the perfect balance between ease of growth and high-quality output for table use.
