Onion GRINGO

Betting on green: why Gringo is the pro's choice

The 'Gringo' bunching onion (scallion) by the selection company Greenomica is a specialized tool for those building a business on a "green conveyor." Unlike many varieties that try to "please everyone," this hybrid has been perfected specifically for producing high-quality commercial greens. The primary value here lies in crop predictability and high profitability per hectare.

Fundamental protection against Fusarium

The main pain point in growing bunching onions is Fusarium wilt. Soil intensively used for leafy vegetables eventually accumulates pathogens. 'Gringo' possesses genetic resistance to Fusarium, allowing for a reduction in the fungicidal load on crops. For an agronomist, this means two crucial things:

• Reduced expenditure on expensive pesticides.
• The ability to grow produce with a lower chemical residue level, which is vital for the retail segment and environmentally conscious farms.

Crop features and market advantages

A robust root system allows 'Gringo' to recover quickly after cutting, which is critical for multiple harvests. The hybrid’s leaves are characterized by an intense green color and a waxy bloom that prevents rapid wilting after harvest. This makes the shelf appeal of 'Gringo' more resilient in supermarkets — the product retains freshness and turgor longer, reducing waste percentages.

Who is this hybrid for?

'Gringo' is optimal for large-scale industrial farms and greenhouse complexes. It should not be viewed as a "one-size-fits-all" onion; this is a niche-specific crop designed to ensure stable market supply. If your business model relies on volumes and strict adherence to cutting schedules, 'Gringo' will become the foundation that protects your crops from biological risks and delivers premium-quality commercial produce.
