Onion GUARAN

Breeding Profile of the "Guran" Onion

The "Guran" variety, developed by specialists at the Tyumen State Agricultural Academy under the leadership of V.G. Suzan, is a specialized product of Siberian breeding. Unlike southern hybrids, the focus here is on adaptation to conditions with a short growing season, which is critical for achieving commercial yields in high-risk farming zones.

Technical Specifications and Application

The product is classified as a salad variety; however, its physical and chemical properties allow for effective use in processing. The engineering approach of the Tyumen State Agricultural Academy breeders focused on balancing the density of the outer scales with taste qualities:

• Texture and Flavor: The variety is characterized by reduced pungency, a key factor for the "salad" segment. The flesh is sufficiently juicy for culinary use without prior heat treatment.
• Processing Efficiency: The shape and size of the bulb are optimized for standard automated peeling and slicing lines. High dry matter content ensures the structural integrity of the product during industrial processing (drying or freezing).

Practical Value for Agribusiness

Choosing "Guran" means relying on local breeding that performs predictably under temperate continental climate conditions. The ripening stability and resistance to stress-inducing weather factors, inherent in the variety's genotype, help reduce the risks of losing the product's marketability by harvest time. The agrotechnical purity of the seed material, controlled by the right holder (FGOU VPO Tyumenskaya Gosudarstvennaya S/Kh Akademiya), guarantees compliance with the declared variety traits at all stages of vegetation.
