Le leek variety 'Elephant Trunk' is a mid-early, high-yielding variety with a maturation period of about 155-160 days after seedling emergence. The plant is characterized by dark green leaves and a whitened stem section up to 30 cm long, giving it an attractive appearance and high commercial value. This variety is distinguished by its excellent taste qualities, making it widely used both fresh and in home cooking.
Growing 'Elephant Trunk' leek is done via seedlings: seeds are sown for seedlings in March, and transplanted into open ground at the beginning of May with a spacing of 20x10 cm between plants. Direct sowing of seeds into the ground is also possible at the end of April to the beginning of May at a depth of 1-1.5 cm. To form a thick stem at planting, it is recommended to trim the leaves and roots of the seedlings. The plants require timely watering, regular weeding, loosening, and fertilization with mineral fertilizers. Planting holes are made 15 cm deep with a spacing of 30 cm between them.
The variety is highly productive – yield can reach 4-4.5 kg per square meter. Leek keeps well, especially when covered with sand in a vertical position, which allows it to maintain its freshness for a long time. Regular trimming of leaves to a height of 10 cm twice a month helps maintain the quality and commercial appearance of the product. 'Elephant Trunk' contains no GMOs and is produced by the company Agromaxi (Ukraine).
