Onion Alligator

A Fast-Track Choice for Fresh Market Green Onions

The «Alligator» onion variety from Sedek is a specialized leaf-type cultivar designed for high-turnover production. In professional farming, the primary advantage of this variety is its extremely short vegetation period of just 40–45 days, allowing for rapid crop rotation.

Practical Scenarios for Agricultural Operations

• Seasonal Conveyor: Due to its early maturation, "Alligator" is perfectly suited for continuous planting, ensuring a steady supply of fresh greens for the market from early spring until autumn.
• High-Intensity Farming: The variety allows for multiple harvests per season from the same plot, maximizing the utility of available acreage.
• Fresh Market Appeal: The plant produces high-quality foliage that withstands transport well, maintaining a fresh, appealing appearance, which is essential for retail and direct market sales.

Yields typically range from 2 to 5 kg per square meter. To reach the higher end of this spectrum, consistent soil moisture and proper planting density are required. As a leaf-type onion, "Alligator" allocates all its energy to vegetative growth rather than bulb formation, making it an efficient tool for producers focused solely on high-quality onion greens.

Choosing this variety helps minimize the duration of the crop cycle, thereby reducing exposure to typical field pests and diseases associated with longer-maturing varieties. It is an ideal solution for agricultural enterprises seeking to optimize their labor and land resources for the fresh produce segment.
