Elektrik onion is a mid-season overwintering variety intended for planting in the winter period. It belongs to the short-day plants category and is characterized by high resistance to bolting, which ensures a stable and abundant harvest. The bulbs have an oval, slightly flattened shape and a rich reddish-maroon color. The average weight of one bulb is about 250 grams. This variety is renowned for its sweet taste with a slight spiciness, making it ideal for fresh consumption, in salads, as well as for canning and home cooking. Elektrik is distinguished by its high storage ability—the onion maintains its market quality and freshness for up to seven months, allowing the harvest to be stored for a long time without loss of taste and nutritional properties. The onion contains a significant amount of dry matter and vitamin C, which enhances its nutritional value. The variety is resistant to most garden diseases and pests, however, upon the appearance of onion fly, treatment with special disinfectants and fungicides for plant protection is recommended. For successful cultivation of the Elektrik variety, it is recommended to choose sunny areas with light, fertile, and well-drained soil. Planting of seed onions is carried out in autumn, at the end of September—beginning of October, so that a strong root system has time to form before the onset of frost. The distance between seed onions should be about 10 cm, and the planting depth—up to 5 cm. Care of plants includes regular soil loosening and moderate watering with an interval of 7-10 days, which is stopped one month before harvesting. The variety tolerates drought well and requires standard agricultural technical measures to ensure high yield.
