AFBAK is a medium-early variety of onion recommended for growing as an annual crop from seeds. The bulbs have a medium size and an egg-shaped form with a weight of about 65 grams. The appearance is characterized by dry red skins and a reddish tint of the fleshy skins. The onion has a semi-sharp taste, and the neck thickness is medium. The bulbs can be single- or two-bud, which affects their structure and quality.
The variety is distinguished by high market yield, which averages 171.4 centners per hectare and can reach 340 centners per hectare under favorable conditions. The maturity of bulbs before harvest is about 77.7%, and after after-ripening reaches almost 100%, ensuring high product quality. AFBAK is included in the state register for the Central Chernozem, Middle Volga, and Ural regions, confirming its adaptability to the various climatic conditions of these territories.
Research conducted at the Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Growing showed that the use of glauconitic sands can affect the productivity of the AFBAK variety, improving the percentage of marketable bulbs. This indicates the possibility of increasing yield and onion quality when using modern agro-technical techniques. Thus, the AFBAK variety represents a reliable and promising choice for vegetable growers focused on obtaining high-quality and high-yield onions.
