Onion Flame

Technical Profile of the "Plamya" Onion: Selection Analysis

The "Plamya" onion is a mid-late maturing salad variety with a vegetation period of 120–130 days, specifically engineered for high-yield industrial cultivation. When optimal agronomic practices are applied, this variety achieves a yield capacity of 70–90 tons per hectare, making it a highly competitive option for commercial vegetable farming.

Onion Architecture and Marketable Characteristics

• Morphology: The ellipsoidal shape of the bulb optimizes mechanical harvesting and sorting processes, significantly reducing product loss during handling.
• Pigmentation: The deep red color of the outer scales and internal flesh is attributed to a high concentration of anthocyanins, positioning this variety in the premium salad onion segment.
• Usage: With its mild, semi-sharp flavor and aesthetic appeal, "Plamya" is a preferred choice for both fresh retail markets and culinary applications.

Developed by Evgeniya Mikhailovna Erofeeva, this variety is tailored to meet specific market demands where bulb density and shelf life are critical parameters. The extended ripening cycle allows the bulb to accumulate significant dry matter, which is essential for maintaining quality during long-term storage. Success with "Plamya" requires strict adherence to planting schedules to ensure the plant fully realizes its genetic potential during the bulb formation stage in varying environmental conditions.
