Description PODGORNY
PODGORNY is a variety of overwintering oats (Avena sativa L.) intended primarily for grain production. It is characterized by medium-to-late maturity depending on specific conditions, with a vegetation period ranging from 249 to 297 days. The plant features medium or low stem height (from 90 to 120 cm), bush shape ranging from semi-prostrate to erect, and light or dark green leaf blade color with weak pubescence. The panicle is two-sided, of medium or large length (from 15.5 to 30 cm), with drooping spikelet placement and strong awniness. The grain is of medium size (approximately 21 mm), colored from white and light cream to light gray with dark veins. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 28 to 37 grams, indicating good seed quality.

The PODGORNY variety exhibits high winter hardiness and resistance to major oat diseases such as bacterial leaf spot and stem and crown rust. Lodging resistance is assessed as medium to high, which helps preserve yield under adverse weather conditions. Grain yield in production conditions reaches 41.3 centners per hectare, while green mass yield is 185.2 centners per hectare. Grain density falls within 462–511 g/l, and hulling content is approximately 28.1%, which is important for technological processing and storage.

Successful cultivation of PODGORNY oats requires proper agronomy: soil preparation, ensuring adequate moisture, and fertilizer application, especially potassium and phosphorus. Oats are undemanding regarding soil and climate, capable of withstanding minor frosts, and prefer moist conditions. Sowing is typically done in spring, considering the seeding rate, while care includes harrowing and pest protection. The crop is used for both grain and green fodder or silage, making the variety versatile and in demand in agriculture.
