Oat variety Chernihivsky 83 is a high-yield and disease-resistant variety developed in Ukraine. It is characterized by a medium duration of the vegetative period from 98 to 116 days, making it a medium-late variety that ripens 6-7 days later than local analogs. The plants reach a height of 120-155 cm, have an erect stem with a hollow and strong structure, and wide light-green leaves. The grain is light, well-formed, with a blunt tip; the mass of 1000 grains is 30-38 grams, and the protein content varies from 14 to 17%. Variety Chernihivsky 83 is characterized by good drought resistance and high resistance to lodging. It has a medium level of susceptibility to box and stem rust, while being weakly damaged by the Swedish fly. A feature of the variety is high yield: grains yield up to 56-60 c/ha, and green mass reaches 460-520 c/ha. Thanks to these characteristics, the variety is widely used for feed purposes and is suitable for cultivation on light and medium soils, including northern regions. Chernihivsky 83 was created by individual selection from a hybrid population obtained by crossing the varieties Mirny and Los-3. It differs in a semi-late ripening period and bush form with side branches branching off at an acute angle. The ears have medium size, and awns are almost absent, which facilitates harvesting. The variety is recommended for use in feed production and bread-making industries, thanks to the high quality of grain and resistance to unfavorable growing conditions.
