Mustard Prelesnaya

A Proactive Solution for Soil Remediation

Mustard 'Preletnaya' (Prelyestnaya) is a specialized variety developed through the collaboration of the Vavilov Institute of Plant Genetic Resources and the 'Dacha Academy'. Unlike generic fodder varieties, this mustard is engineered specifically as a green manure crop with significant phytosanitary properties.

Addressing Clubroot Challenges

The standout feature of this variety is its documented resistance to clubroot (Plasmodiophora brassicae). For growers struggling with contaminated soil, especially those who rotate cole crops like cabbage, radishes, or turnips, 'Preletnaya' serves as a biological break in the infection cycle. It effectively suppresses the soil-borne pathogens that typically devastate cruciferous vegetables.

Key Advantages for Sustainable Farming

• Pest Management: The specific chemical profile of this mustard acts as a natural deterrent against the cruciferous flea beetle, ensuring the crop can thrive even in regions with high pest pressure.
• Rapid Biomass Accumulation: The variety exhibits vigorous vegetative growth, allowing it to act as an efficient intermediate crop that builds soil organic matter in a short time frame.
• Soil Structure Improvement: Its robust root system penetrates compacted soil layers, improving aeration and drainage, which facilitates better nutrient uptake for subsequent primary crops.

Who Should Choose This Variety?

'Preletnaya' is an essential tool for organic gardeners and small-scale farmers prioritizing soil health. It is particularly valuable on 'tired' soils that have been depleted by heavy cropping. To maximize its benefits, growers should incorporate the biomass into the soil before the stems become lignified; this ensures rapid decomposition, nitrogen release, and maximum soil enrichment.
