Shantene Royal carrot is a mid-season, high-yielding variety developed by Dutch breeders and belongs to the Shantene group. This variety is characterized by large, orange, conical root crops, with a length of 12 to 18 cm and a weight up to 220 g. The vegetation period is 90 to 110 days, which allows harvesting as early as June. The carrot has a high content of beta-carotene, making it particularly valuable for fresh consumption and processing, including carrot juice production. Vegetables store well during the winter period, maintaining their taste and nutritional value.
For successful cultivation of the Shantene Royal variety, it is recommended to use light, well-drained, loamy or clay loam soils with good aeration. Preferred predecessors are potatoes, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, and legumes. Before sowing into the ground, complex mineral fertilizers are applied to ensure full plant nutrition throughout the vegetation period. Seeds are soaked in water for a day before planting, then dried. Sowing is conducted with a row width of 25-45 cm, plant spacing of 2-3 cm, and sowing depth of 0.5-2.5 cm. Regular irrigation is necessary on dry days, using up to 10 liters of water per square meter.
The variety is characterized by resistance to bolting, high winter hardiness, and good disease resistance. It is undemanding in care but does not tolerate water stagnation at the roots and does not require organic top dressing. Thanks to these qualities, Shantene Royal carrot is suitable for both home gardens and commercial production. Seeds are released in mini-packages, which is convenient for gardeners, and the sowing rate is 40-60 g per centner. The producer is the Agrolinia brand from Ukraine.
