Zarnitsa is an East Asian species of honeysuckle with dark blue berries covered with a medium-intensity waxy bloom. The berries have a spindle-shaped cylindrical form, dense skin, and contain a high level of vitamin C (79 mg/100 g), making them particularly useful for strengthening blood vessels and lowering blood pressure.
The bush is characterized by high frost resistance, resistance to pests and diseases, and a long lifespan – from 20 to 130 years with proper care. It easily withstands transplantation and can be grown both in garden plots and on industrial plantations. The average yield is about 53 centners from one hectare, and in a regular garden – approximately 2 kg from one bush.
Zarnitsa berries are sour-sweet, weighing from 1.3 to 4 grams, and ripen in mid-May for early varieties and until August for late ones. The bush is undemanding, long-lived, and adorns the garden with its flowers, while providing high yield and health benefits.
