BAIKALOVSKAYA

The 'Baikalovskaya' blueberry variety is the result of folk selection and the work of Russian breeder I.L. Baikalov. It was included in the State Register of the Russian Federation in 2002, approved for use throughout Russia, and suitable for cultivation in all climatic zones of the country.

The bush is of medium height (up to 1.5 m), has an oval shape and a slightly spreading character. Shoots are medium, straight, covered with brownish-red bark, while leaves are large, dark green, elongated-oval, and slightly hairy. The berries are elongated, blue with a thin skin and weak simple pubescence; they have an average mass of about 1 g, a sweet-soft taste, and a strawberry aroma. Inside, there is approximately 6.9% sugar, 2.0% acidity, and 53 mg of vitamin C per 100 g of product.

Yield from bushes aged 7 years ranges from 1.5 to 2.5 kg. The variety is self-sterile, but for maximum yield, cross-pollination with 'Sinyaya Ptitsa', 'Goluboy Vereteno', and 'Pamyati Gidzhyuka' varieties is recommended. 'Baikalovskaya' is distinguished by high winter hardiness and frost resistance, making it ideal for growing in cold regions. Berries ripen in mid-June, bringing a harvest with a tasting score of 4.8 points and universal use as fresh produce and for processing.
