Description
The 'Maria' honeysuckle is an early, high-yielding shrub from the South Urals selection that starts bearing fruit only in the third year after planting. The shrub is of medium height, up to two meters, but with proper care can reach a height of two meters. The berries are large, weighing from 1.1 to 1.6 grams, have a thin skin and tender flesh. They are distinguished by a dessert flavor with a slight tartness, without bitterness, and maintain their vase shape even after ripening, staying on the branches for a long time without shedding.
The 'Maria' variety is characterized by resistance to spring frosts, heat resistance, and drought tolerance. It tolerates various climatic conditions well, is not susceptible to diseases and pests, which makes it a reliable choice for gardeners. The berries contain a rich complex of biologically active substances: vitamin C (from 20 to 150 mg/100 g), carotene, thiamine, riboflavin, folic acid, and trace elements, making them useful both fresh, frozen, or processed.
For maximum yield, it is recommended to use pollinators Long-fruited and Amazon. Berries begin to ripen in mid-June, and thanks to high yield – up to 1.5 kg per shrub – they are suitable for both personal consumption and commercial processing into jams, compotes, or canned goods.
