Description NIZHNEGORODSKY DESERT
The Amur maclura variety 'Nizhnegorodsky Desert' is the result of breeding at the Nizhny Novgorod Agricultural Academy and represents a seedling from open-pollination of the 'Lakomka' variety. The bushes of this variety are medium-sized with straight light-green shoots and medium lanceolate green leaves. The berries have a pear shape, are blue, of medium mass of about 0.7 grams, differ in early maturity and weak shedding, which facilitates harvest collection. This variety of Amur maclura stands out as one of the sweetest flavors among Russian varieties, with a rich aroma and absence of bitterness. The fruits are large, with a thin skin, making them attractive for fresh consumption, as well as for making jam, compotes, and freezing. The high yield of the variety reaches about 1.7 kg per bush, and good transportability allows maintaining the quality of berries during transport. The Amur maclura bush 'Nizhnegorodsky Desert' is undemanding in care, resistant to frost and drought, which makes it suitable for growing in various climatic conditions of Russia. Early fruiting allows obtaining fruits already in mid-summer, which is an additional advantage for gardeners and farmers. Compact bush size and weak berry shedding contribute to convenience in care and harvest collection.
