The Hemerocallis variety "Velvet Night" is a perennial plant with velvety deep burgundy flowers ranging from 8 to 10 centimeters in diameter, adorned with a bright yellow-green throat. The flowers possess a rich dark purple hue and bloom at the end of June, continuing to flower for 30–45 days. Each flower lives for only one day, but due to the sequential opening of buds, the flowering appears continuous. On sturdy flower stalks ranging from 60 to 70 centimeters in height, one to three flowers bloom simultaneously, giving the plant an impressive appearance.
The Hemerocallis "Velvet Night" is characterized by high winter hardiness and can withstand frosts without cover in zones 3–4. In regions with harsh winters, light cover using sawdust, peat, or evergreen branches is recommended to protect the bush. The plant prefers moderately moist soil and grows well both in full sun and partial shade. Regular watering is necessary during dry periods, especially for young saplings. The plant has basal leaves that are narrow and bright green, withering during the cold season.
Care for Hemerocallis is simple and does not require frequent replanting, as the plant can grow in one place for more than ten years. After flowering, cut off the flower stalks, and in the autumn, remove old leaves to ground level. The recommended planting depth for rhizomes is about 10 centimeters, and the distance between plants is approximately 45 centimeters. Thanks to its decorative qualities and undemanding nature, Hemerocallis "Velvet Night" will become a wonderful garden decoration, pleasing the eye with bright velvety flowers throughout the summer, with possible reblooming at the end of the season.
