Tulip Boule d'Or

Commercial Cultivation of Boule d'Or Tulips

The late-flowering double tulip 'Boule d'Or' represents a high-value asset for commercial flower growers targeting the luxury floral market. With its peony-like, golden-yellow blooms, this cultivar is highly prized for event floristry, requiring varieties that combine aesthetic volume with reliable production cycles.

Resilience and Phytosanitary Profile

From an agronomical perspective, the primary advantage of 'Boule d'Or' is its robust defense system against common soil-borne and viral pathogens. Reducing the dependency on extensive fungicide applications, this hybrid offers excellent performance in both greenhouse and open-field environments:

• Disease Resistance: The cultivar exhibits significant resistance to Fusarium wilt and Phytophthora, two of the most destructive threats in bulb production.
• Viral Defense: Resistance to Tomato Mosaic Virus ensures uniform plant growth and prevents the aesthetic degradation of foliage and petals.
• Fungal Management: The plant shows strong tolerance against Cladosporium, maintaining crop health even during periods of high spring moisture.

Operational Strategies for Growers

As a tall, late-blooming variety, 'Boule d'Or' requires precise management of irrigation and nutrient supply to support the development of its substantial, heavy blooms. Growers utilize this variety to extend the harvest window, capturing the market share after early-season tulips have declined. Its high level of adaptability to soil-borne pathogens makes it a safer, more sustainable choice for plots with a history of flower cultivation, providing consistent results year over year.
